What Coaching Is

and what it is not.

Imagine you have a map to the place you want to go, but while you were traveling, darkness fell. My role as your coach is to bring a flashlight, and together we pool our resources to get you to your goal.

Coaching is:

  • Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal, scholastic, and professional potential.
  • Setting goals, creating outcomes, managing personal change.
  • Staying client-driven; your goals set the direction of the work, and together we explore paths to achieving those goals.
  • An equal relationship – both coach and client bring their expertise to share, set boundaries, ask questions, and learn.

Coaching is not:

  • Athletic coaching
  • Therapy
  • Mentorship
  • Scholastic training
  • Consulting

You’ll know you’re ready to hire a coach when:

  • Everything is new: you’re experiencing major life transitions such as starting a new program, graduating, moving to a new city, or starting a new phase in your life.
  • When you need a “corner guy”: you’re feeling down about your abilities or goals and need someone in your corner to unequivocally cheer you on.
  • You’re feeling lost: you have a clear understanding of your academic, career, or personal goals but need guidance on how to achieve them.
  • You feel stuck or overwhelmed: your current situation is frustrating and it’s time for fresh direction or perspective.
  • When you find yourself procrastinating: you’re struggling with self-discipline or find it challenging to manage your time effectively, and need someone to hold you accountable for your actions and goals.
  • When everything seems “off”: you’re struggling with balancing academic commitments, work, and personal life.
  • Things could be better: you have a strong desire to improve yourself, whether it’s academically, personally, or professionally.
